### CryptoCookies has its own set of terms and phrases that may be unfamiliar to newcomers. Here are some of the key terms you will encounter throughout the game:

* **Staking:** The process of depositing tokens in a pool to earn rewards. The staking pools generate yield in the opposite cryptocurrency, i.e. if a user deposits CKI in the CKI staking pool the latter will generate FDG and conversely if a user deposits FDG in the FDG staking pool the latter will generate yield in CKI.
* **Locking:** The process of depositing tokens in a locking pool for a specified duration (i.e. during a defined locking period). Tokens locked in a locking pool are deployed within the competition arena and thus are at risk of being stolen by player attacks. Users who lock their capital in the CKI or FDG locking pools, will get ranked into a specific league according to the amount of tokens they lock in the pools. According to the ranking of their league, their yield from the locking pool will get boosted according to a specific boost factor, which is detailed in the [Player leagues and Yield Boost Factors section](https://cryptocookies.gitbook.io/documentation/game-dynamics/player-battles/player-leagues-and-yield-boost-factors).
* **Yield Boosting:** The act of boosting your token earnings in FDG and CKI by creating golden cookies (gCKI), which can be obtained by converting CKI tokens into golden cookies.
* **Player Competitions :** The act of engaging in player-versus-player (PvP) battles to capture other players locked tokens. Player competitions are possible with both Cookie and Fudge tokens.
* **Defense Points (DP) :** Tokens specifically designed to protect your locked CKI or FDG tokens. These tokens can be obtained by converting CKI tokens to obtain defense points. The defense points allow to protect both types of yield tokens in the game (i.e. yCKI and yFDG). A player can choose to swap back his defense points to CKI at any time. Based on the amount of defense points a player holds, a vulnerability score will be determined by the system (on a scale from 1 to 10), indicating how vulnerable a players yCKI or yFDG are to attacks from other players.
* **Attack Dough (AD):** Tokens used in Person-versus-Person battles to capture tokens from opponents. These tokens can be obtained by blocking CKI tokens in the game. Blocking CKI tokens will grant the players a certain amount of attack points per sec. The longer CKI tokens are blocked the more attack points are produced for the player, proportionately to the amount of time during which the CKI tokens are blocked and to the amount of CKI tokens which are blocked for this purpose.
